According to WHO guidelines, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal weight. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25–29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obesity. BMI is a rough guideline and doesn't account for muscle mass or body fat distribution.
BMI = body weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²). Example: 75 kg at 1.80 m → BMI = 75 ÷ (1.80 × 1.80) = 75 ÷ 3.24 ≈ 23.1 (normal weight). Our BMI calculator performs this calculation automatically.
BMI doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat mass. Athletes with high muscle mass may have a high BMI even though their body fat percentage is low. Body fat measurements or waist circumference are more accurate indicators of health risks.
